Planet of the Apes series movies are space-traveling science fiction movies filmed earlier than Star Wars. Some people only know a movie filmed in 2001 with a same name. In fact, that's a refined replica. There are 5 original movies:
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
Many scenes in the 4th movie Conquest of the Planet of the Apes were filmed in University of California, Irvine (UCI). The reason was that when filming the movie in 1972, they needed a place with futuristic buildings to get along with the story that was supposed to happen in 1991. They finally chose the UCI campus whose buildings were designed by a futuristic designer. Following the movie pictures saved by Professor Dourish, I found some "ruins" of the filming places in the campus.
