In the freezing and windy weather, there are some awesome beach sceneries that cannot be seen in the warm Southern California:
My guess of the formation of this kind of sand structure above: the water is brought to the beach by the waves; there's air in the sands, which is below the water; due to Rayleigh-Taylor instability, the water falls down into the space among sands in mushroom shapes; the temperature drops below freezing point, which freezes the mushroom-shaped water; the wind blows the dry sands away; therefore we see the mushroom-shaped frozen sands.
